From the Desk of Doctor Paul ..."But now that you know God...or rather are known by God...how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?" Galatians 4:9
"Jesus replied, 'No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.'" Luke 9:62
"Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed." 1 Peter 4:12-13
"One day Jesus said to his disciples, 'Let's cross over to the other side of the lake.' So they got into a boat and started out. On the journey, Jesus decided to take a nap. While he was sleeping the wind began to rise. A fierce storm developed that threatened to swamp them all, and they seemingly were in real danger. The disciples woke him up, shouting, 'Master, Master, we're going to drown!' So Jesus rebuked the wind and the raging waves. The storm stopped, and all was calm! Then he asked them, 'Where is your faith?' And they were filled with awe and amazement. They said to one another, 'Who is this man, that even the winds and waves obey him?'" Luke 8:22-25
I so often marvel at this portion of Scripture. Certainly, the disciples, at least some of them, determined to follow the Master and entered that boat. Without question, others within hearing distance discerned the same invitation. If I had been present, there's no doubt in my mind. This writer would have prevailed upon the Savior, and been part of that crew.
Placing myself there now, I wonder what the senses would have demanded. Most natural mindsets might well have been concerned about the wind and waves. Of course, you and I are privy to both the story and outcome. The disciples weren't. However, again, there likely would have been an expression of concern, from my position in the boat, over the elements, particularly if I hadn't known the outcome in advance.
It's crucial to realize this. At that particular juncture, the Holy Spirit didn't reside on the inside of Believers. Manifestations were usually external. Jesus was still facing His crucifixion and resurrection. The Savior ruled by example. He was the Living Epistle, or Role Model, for His followers. Senses were important to them and the learning/growth process. Furthermore, the Redeemer clearly both reflected and emanated the Father's express nature. In essence, by seeing One, you saw the Other. Visceral feelings, gifts of faith, and that inner-knowing, were lacking, since the Revelator hadn't been sent. His time was yet to come, and the highest of prices was first to be paid at Calvary's cross, in order that we could be in a position of receiving the Gift.
Let me say this again. Most of what people encountered back then was expressed and manifested by way of external orientation. Today, God acts and speaks from within. The excellency of Heaven's Treasure resides on the inside of every Christian. No longer is the Power Agent confined to a box or room made with earthly hands. Instead, through Word and choice, He inhabits the spirit of man, permeating every atom and fiber of our being, since we have been richly redeemed and are no longer our own.
In the previously related story, Jesus had issued an invitation to witness the miraculous, by crossing over from the realm of the natural to that of the Supernatural. Those deciding to make the journey did so, not only in body, but in spirit, as well. They tasted of Heaven by observing the calming of a storm and a stilling of threatening waves. The Word exclaims that they marveled at the authority and Power inherent within the Man. And to think, as He is, we have become in this world, bone of His bone, flesh of Dad's flesh, poised to perform "even greater works than these!"
Entering that graveyard, the group met up with a demoniac who was possessed with a legion of demons. For they were many. It's highly intriguing to note that Christ didn't spend a great deal of time in that place or situation. Neither did He argue with those spirits, or attempt to establish a new doctrine. The Master simply spoke the Word, as the "Living Word." What happened next became history. Hell shook, and a beautiful human, that tormented demoniac, was released from his bonds.
Have you ever contemplated how bland and ineffective the Bible would be, if it were not for the miraculous? What would the Book look like without signs and wonders? Victims of Satan undoubtedly would have remained that way, continuing to be pawns of affliction. Hell rightfully could have declared, "We have more power and ability than you!" Fully preaching the Gospel with signs following just wouldn't have happened. The sick, demon possessed and prematurely deceased would have remained in their helpless states, with few to none being added to the Church.
Aren't you thankful that wasn't the case? Jesus Christ, indeed, is the same, yesterday, today and forever! Nothing has changed, except for a turning up of Glory's Heat! We are no longer victims of Satan's ploys, but Victors, more than conquerors through the One Who was obedient unto death.
Let's think about today's Gospel. Are we to remain mute and helpless in the face of Hell's onslaught? Did the Master leave this planet and its people at a disadvantage, without the much needed tools to, most vitally, win the lost and deliver the oppressed? Even common sense, which doesn't seem to be so common in this day and age, shouts an emphatic, "No!"
The mightier works, in a larger world, require an even greater anointing and more Power, if you will. Concurrent with that is an increase in knowledge. We're not strictly talking about natural intellect, but an exponential multiplication of understanding, unveiling and manifestation of the Glory, a latter house display of the unparalleled, unprecedented and unpredictable.
Heaven's request hasn't changed. We are being asked to go over to the other side, from the mundane to the miraculous, a journey necessitating breaking out of respective comfort zones and agendas, dropping everything on a moment's notice, at the Holy Spirit's prompting, letting the Wind control our sails, and following Him, whatever that may cost or entail.
Once in the boat, there will be natural and supernatural opposition. We must remain mindful of the fact that Jesus is ever present with us, exactly as He was with His followers back then. One of the greatest confirmations of being in the center of God's will is a shaking of darkness, the presence of resistance and persecution. Never let any of that sway you, since the Voice of the One Who promises victory and success resonates from within. He will not articulate blame, shame, condemnation or a discouraging word. The Holy Spirit's focus is to counsel, guide, instruct, empower, comfort and deliver. That's His job description.
I perceive the Revelator's stirring this very moment. Let's give Him audience, as He fills us with Glory!
"Redeemed One, have you ever noticed that most of My creation is geared for
forward movement? Where are your eyes, nose and mouth? What about those feet
and toes, their direction of orientation? They have been placed in the front of
one's body for a reason...to embrace and enjoy the present and
future...forward movement. What happens when a person attempts to walk or run backwards? Try
it sometime. An unsteadiness will be felt. Some will actually fall over. You
were not designed for reverse, unless We're talking about repentance. Even
picture albums of former days aren't used as life's manual for the present and
future. I am never opposed to reminiscing. In fact, the Children have been
instructed to remember those former days, in terms of what I have done,
redemptionwise, in their lives. But, there is no future in the past. The old is gone,
making room for Heaven's new. Contemplating the positive is always uplifting.
Nostalgia is marvelous. Yet, today's decisions become tomorrow's memories. Looking
back will only inhibit forward movement and place you in a position of
running into the negatively unexpected. Never rest on laurels or mistakes. Behold, I
Am about to do a new thing, cutting all short in righteousness. Open and
closed doors are what this new walk is all about. In the days ahead, the Spirit of
Truth will be redirecting many in the Body of Christ...once more, opening and
closing doors, in terms of mindsets, old ways, relationships, previous belief
systems, oppression, sin, sickness, poverty and death. Prior enemies are to
be seen no more. Just as the Pillar of Cloud and Pillar of Fire were positioned
in front of the Children of Israel...straight ahead, promoting forward
movement, such is the case with the present Church, as the Lord of all directs His
Bride down an Isle of Glory, a march of deliverance, promotion and
transformation. Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial of your faith. For that
fire will be modified and become 'the Fire,' that which Jesus talked about, when
referring to His ministers becoming a flaming Fire, from the loins up and
down. Negativity will not survive that ignition, as all contrary to Covenant is
consumed in It's Presence, both internally and externally. Don't become caught
up in Satan's trap of despair and defeat. The Gospel of Christ is Good News,
not bad. The Word's intent is to redeem, restore and reconcile ... people to
each other, and the Body of Christ to the Father. The gates of hell will never
prevail. Maintain residency in the Throne Room, while My Voice becomes clearer
and stronger than any other. Precious Child, look up and ahead. Your
redemption draws nigh!"
